Project Description
In late 2023 Sola embarked on an ambitious renovation project showcased on the renowned TV series “Room to Improve” hosted by Dermot Bannon. This endeavour not only highlighted SOLA’s expertise in property renovation but also brought new life to a property that had long stood vacant.
The property in question presented a significant challenge due to its prolonged vacancy and outdated structure. Initially assessed with a BER rating of E1, it was clear that a major transformation was needed to revitalize the space into a modern, energy-efficient home for Kate, Brian and their young family.
Central to this transformation was a series of strategic upgrades aimed at drastically improving the property’s energy efficiency:
New Tripled Glazed Aluclad windows and doors throughout incl. new energy efficient front door.
New Air to Water heating system to replace existing oil boiler
- Underfloor heating to the ground floor
- Radiators to the first floor
Floor Insulation
Internal Wall Insulation
Attic Insulation
Demand Control Ventilation system
Airtightness measures
Low energy lighting
Crucial to the project’s feasibility were the grants provided by SEAI and the derelict and vacant homes grant. These funds were instrumental in transforming the vision into reality, showcasing how financial support can be pivotal in residential property renovations.
This remarkable transformation journey is available for viewing on the RTE Player, offering a glimpse into the extensive work and stunning outcome of the project. The show not only highlights SOLA’s capabilities but also emphasises the potential in reviving forgotten properties.
The project culminated in a remarkable uplift in the property’s BER rating to an impressive A2. The project served as a testament to SOLA’s commitment to sustainability and excellence in renovation.
Below are a couple of tasters of the show that can be seen on the RTE Player.
